• Welcome to my Homepage! My responsibilities include all  students grades 9-12 whose last names begin with the letters A through L. You may reach me at fdickman@tamaquasd.org .

During the 1st quarter my time is devoted to teaching guidance seminars, scheduling the ASVAB assement and completing my yearly visits with all of the senior and junior students. This is primarily done during the months of August, September and October. Once October starts to end my efforts shift towards the large number of post-secondary school applications being submitted. National and State level scholarships are also made available to students at this time. Examples of these types of scholarships would include the Coca Cola, the Prudential Leadership, the PENCON, Big 33, etc... Junior yearly visits are finishing up during the month of November with sophomore yearly visits completed during the month of December.

After the Christmas break mid year grade reports are sent to all colleges. Any senior students with the potential to fail a required course for the year have letters sent to their parents. This time of year also sparks the beginning of the Night of Achievement Awards Program Scholarships. Approximately three to four scholarships are advertised each week and students are given approximately one month to complete each scholarship. A detailed list of scholarships currently available can be found in the Guidance section of this site.

Towards the end of February/beginning of March course selection and Votech scheduling also takes place. Each of the Guidance Counselors does an extensive presentation on the importance of course selection in your child's Social Studies class. Students are given approximately one week to have their teachers and parents sign off on the sheets before submitting them to the Guidance Office for review.

The Votech application process is relatively simple. Students sign up in the Guidance Office. They then take an application form home to obtain their parent's signature before submitting it to Guidance by the beginning of March. Students who complete this process are tentatively placed on Tamaqua's Votech roster. The Guidance Office receives confirmation of the student's enrollment in their desired shop from the Votech normally by the last week in April.

The second Monday in May marks our annual Night of Achievement Awards Program. It has been traditionally held in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium around 7:00 pm. Students are typically given invitations two weeks prior to the event if they have won an award.

The following Monday is our annual Achievement Assembly. It is held in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The entire student body is invited to participate in this highly rewarding program. Our best and brightest students are recognized for their effort and achievement.

Thank you for taking the time to read this brief overview of my scheduled activities. I look forward in helping your child plan their future!
