As superintendent of Tamaqua Area School District (TASD), I continually reflect upon our district’s mission and the policies that guide our decision-making.  Together, they provide a clear framework for ensuring that every decision we make is centered on what is best for our students and our communities.  

The MISSION of the Tamaqua Area School District, in partnership with home and community, is committed to empowering students by providing opportunities to achieve their maximum potentials as responsible citizens and productive lifelong learners competing in an ever changing global community.

Tamaqua Area School District has a proud tradition of educational excellence and a strong culture that values learning, achievement, and opportunity.  Our students and staff continue to excel in academics, athletics, the arts, and a wide range of extracurricular and co-curricular activities. Through opportunities such as the Morgan Scholarship and the Scheller Scholarship, Tamaqua Area graduates have access to resources that help make post-secondary education more attainable. Our dual-enrollment partnerships with Penn State University - Hazleton and Schuylkill Campus's, Kutztown University, and Lehigh Carbon Community College further expand opportunities for students, including pathways emphasizing STEM education, college readiness and career preparation.

However, the value of a TASD education extends far beyond test scores, graduation rates, or acceptance into post-secondary institutions. A Tamaqua education is about engagement, relationships, opportunity, and growth. It is about knowing our students, challenging them to reach their potential, encouraging them to explore their interests, and providing experiences that prepare them for success beyond the classroom.

We believe our students must be prepared not only for the world of today, but or the opportunities and challenges of tomorrow.  That means developing critical thinkers, problem-solvers, collaborators, communicatiors, innovators, and responsible citizens who are prepared to thrive in an ever-changing global community.

Our commitment is to provide students with a well-rounded educational experience through a vast array of curricular, co-curricular, athletic, artistic, and extracurricular programs.  These experiences help students discover their passions, develop confidence and character, build meaningful relationships, and acquire the skills necessary for lifelong learning and success.
